Chevrolet Repair: 4wd, prong plug, 1997 chevy 1500

Question
QUESTION: Hi, i have a 1997 chevy 1500 I am having problems with the 4wd not engaging. I hit the push button you can hear the transfer case engage but won't engage the front axles. I check for power to the actuator there is power from one side of the plug (not sure if both sides are supposed to have power) I replaced the actuator and still nothing. Any information would be a great help. Thank you

ANSWER:
Check the encoder motor and wiring for potential problems. On the six wire connector at the encoder motor, check for a ground back through the transfer case control module on the Black White wire at pin A. Check for 8 volts on the Orange wire at pin E. Check for 5 volts on pin F, Brown White, pin C, Red White, Pin B, Blue White and the Yellow Black wire at pin D.

Is the check engine light on ? If it is get the codes and write me back.
also check for pending codes.

QUESTION: I tested the switch today on transfer case which is 3 prong plug. The first port had power, the middle no power and the left blew my bulb on my light tester on impact. Is that cause i hit 2 grounds? I didn't test the volts on that plug yet because is bit%h to get to. I took actuator out and physically put in 4wd with long screw driver but the light still flashes, both in 4-hi and 4-lo. i think it is either the sensor or the switch itself inside?

Answer
unlikely it is internal to the transfer case. touching two grounds wont blow your bulb

before you go any further , have someone read the codes on this vehicle. some auto parts
stores will do this for free. let me know what the code or codes are and i should be able
to help you further.
