Chevrolet Repair: 2001 Silverado 1500 back drivers side door stuck, half door, vin number

We have the truck that the back door must close before the front door closes. I call it a half door, do not know the correct name. It appears that the bottom latch is stuck, when one moves the handle, the top latch appears loose, but door will not open. Any ideas on how to repair? Thanks

The rod has probably come off the vinyl insert on the top latch.  YOu need to take apart the handle covers to get a the rods to help pull it down.  Its really hard to explain via email but I can try and get a blown updiagram if you like.  I will need the vIN number of the vehicle though.
