Chevrolet Repair: fan blower question, chevy tahoe, fan blower

Question
Hi. I have a 1997 Chevy Tahoe. I recently replaced the fan blower and motor. The old one was making noises, so I had purchased a new one with the intent of replacing it after work the next evening. So, before leaving work I went out to warm the vehicle up for a few minutes. When I came back outside about 5 minutes later to head home, smoke was pouring out from down where the blower was. I immediately turned it off and went home and installed the new one.  After replacing it, I can't get it to blow on the highest setting.I've replaced the fan switch, the blower resistor, and the "pigtail" plug that plugs into the blower switch. Nothing has made a difference.  I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. ps...I've also had a hard time getting the smokey smell out of the vehicle. I've tried several different air fresheners and have left the windows open as much as I can in the cold climate I live in. Any suggestions on what might help there?

Answer
Hey,

The High speed setting goes directly through the switch and probably melted it. I can smell it in my minds eye right now.  Yuck.
When the motor siezed up it probably went full amperage and melted the control switch in the dash.  You can jump the last setting on the blower resistor so the fan gets full voltage on the second last setting instead of replacing the switch.
