Question
2000 chevy blazer 4x4 4.3L
I am getting ready to replace both y front hub bearings, my question is , one of my chilton manuels says I need to install a torsion bar tool to release the torsion bar and free up the suspension, I am assuming this is for a on the lift job , I will be doing it on the ground any suggestions I am a ase certified diesel mechanic and I was just reasearching tools I would need before I started something I could not finish due to special tools, I have everything else I need for the job except that , Whats you opinion on the subject

Answer
Release the torsion bar tension when doing a wheel bearing?  Thats not necessary.

Jack vehicle up, remove wheel, remove caliper and rotor, remove axel shaft nut and spray lube in to splines to facilitate removal.  Remove 3 15mm bolts at the back of the spindle and pull the bearing out.  They can seize in there a bit so don't be shy if you have a silver slapper.  You can hammer it out but be careful not to damage the spindle with a chisel if you think you are going to pry it out.  They can be done in about 15 min with pneumatic tools.
