Chevrolet Repair: 1992 camaro, coolant temp, code checker

Question
QUESTION: my car will start for like 3 minutes then stalls out, strong smell of gas , seems like its getting to much gas from some where. replaced computor , knock sensorand o2 sensor. what do i check for to see why getting to muchfuel? thank you

ANSWER: Hey

The most commonly overlooked problem for overfueling when starting is the coolant temp sensor for the pcm. The pcm uses this reading for base pulse width calculation. Get your hands on a code checker or scan tool. I can get you the specs on wednesday when I get back to work but faulty ones set cts codes.

QUESTION: what about the catylac convertor if its clugged can it do that same thing. and did you get the specs for the coolant temp. thank you ,kim... 1992 camaro

Answer
Hey,

No, the catalytic converter will not cause over fueling.  If you rev it up and hear hissing around the exhuast joints it might be plugged solid.  You could remove the 02 and take it for a drive.  IF it runs fine then the cat is plugged.
