Chevrolet Repair: Front Brake Rotor Relpacement, chevrolet g20, wheel bearings

Question
I am replacing the front brake rotors on a 1994 Chevrolet G20 Custom Van, 5.7 liter gasoline engine, with ABS. My question is this; The nut that is under the grease cap in the center of the rotor, which holds the rotor and wheel bearings in place, how tight should I tighten that? I thank you very much in advance for your help.

Answer
Hi Arthur,

You should tighten that snug.  Use an adjustable wrench and don't apply much pressure.  Just snug.  Then back off on the nut and retighten it with your fingers...only.  Now that it is finger tight, that is perfect.  Put in the cotter pin.  It may feel slightly loose.  Remember, that the heat from driving will make the bearings expand and the wheel will become tight on the road.  If you over tighten, the bearings could lock-up or fail.

Hope this helps.
