Chevrolet Repair: handling, rear brakes, first hope

Question
I have a 97 chevy 1 ton dually c30,7.4 liter engine that I recently purchased. The problem is that when I reach about 60 mph it starts to shake and it also shakes when the brakes are applied. I had new rotors, brake pads, front tires, pitman and idler arms installed and it's still doing the same thing. My mechanic said that it needs new shocks also which I haven't installed yet. I think the shocks might help when I reach freeway speed, but I doubt it'll help when I apply the brakes. I've already spent close to $1400.00 and would not like to waste any more money and not solve the problem. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks. The truck is a crewcab

Answer
Hello John, This is one of those problem where I would need to drive the truck to give you a good answer. Try this...to locate the brake problem pinch off the rear brake hose with a pair of needle nose vise grips. Before you drive it on the road apply the brake pedal once and make sure that the truck still moves, sometimes you will get a little fluid by and it will hold the rear brakes on. Then you need to tighten up the grips. Now drive it down the road and hit the brakes to see if the shake it still there.(be carefull you only have the front brakes so the truck will not stop as fast). If it doesn't shake then the problem is in the rear, if it does..front! If it is in the front take it back and have them put new rotors on, they should be warranty.
As for the front shake it looks like they have checked out the front end for loose parts and replaced them. I don't know what type of shake you have but if it has a steering shock for the linkage I would replace that first.

Hope this helps
