Chevrolet Repair: Cant Accelerate, chevy blazer, battery meter

Question
I have a 1994 Chevy Blazer with over 180,000 miles on it.  When starting the car the idle will go up and down and the battery meter goes up and down also  for about 5 seconds then everything smooths out.  I can drive the car fine until I have to come to a complete stop (red light).  When the light goes green I hit the gas and I can't accelerate past like 5mph and when I hit the gas even more it just makes loud popping sounds.  So I pull over turn off the car and restart it and then I can accelerate fine again until I come to a stop.  This just recently started happening one day and has been getting worse everyday.  Any ideas?  Would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Answer
Hello John, There are 2 things that come to mind, The fuel filter and dist cap and rotor. If you haven't changed the fuel filter do it now and see how it runs. This should be done every 30K. If you still have a problem after the filter change then look at the dist cap and check the ignition coil tower for corrosion.

Hope this helps
