My 81 GMC 1/2 ton pickup died on the road last night.  Today I checked the fuel system and the fuel pump is putting out fuel.  The fuel filter is not clogged.  I changed out the rotor and the ignition module in the distributor.  It turns over but still won't start. This is a Chevy 350 motor.
Answer -
What mechanical work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made

Do you have ignition to the spark plugs ?.

There has been no recent work on the vehicle.
I check and there is no spark going to the plugs. I pulled one wire off and held it to the block and got no spark.  I put another plug in the wire and turned it over and got no spark.

Answer
OK, Your fault is most likely a shorted or failed PICKUP COIL in the distributor. In order to replace the PICKUP coil this involves removing and disassembling the ignition module.
