Chevrolet Repair: 1993 Chevy S10 Ignition Switch, steering wheel lock, chevy s10

Question
The ignition switch 'locks up' however, after a great amount of 'jiggling' it will turn but will not turn far enough to reach the START position. Are there any 'heads-up' tricks to getting it to turn?  If not, how hard is this to replace? The clutch and manual key removal arm/lever on the column have no effect...released or not.
Thanks for you timely response. Rae

Answer
Hi Rae,
The ignition switch, itself, is not located in the steering wheel area where the key goes, but is rather located down on the steering column, above the brake pedal area. It is operated by a rod from a gear rack in the tilt column area, which is operated by the key lock tumbler assembly. The switch IS adjustable where it mounts.
Any one of those could cause the problem, as well as could the steering wheel lock assembly.
I assume you have noticed that turning the wheel may help when it binds in there.
What needs to be done is figure out just what won't let it turn.
You have tried different keys? and if so, is there ANY difference?

Let me send you a link that is actually for repairing loose tilt column joint, but covers all of the steering wheel area parts.
