Chevrolet Repair: rear end whine, chevy caprice, pinion bearings

Question
'92 chevy caprice wagon 350 auto 8.5 rear end.
I bought it used & thought when i drove it i was hearing tire whine from the rear. It isn't. We pulled the axles & replaced the wheel bearings & seals(they needed it but that didn't stop the noise). It isn't posi. it has 130,000 miles on it.
The records indicate "differential bearings replaced" about 50k miles ago. What should we try next?

Answer
Hi Bill,
I would guess that the rear end wasn't "set up" properly. The diff bearings are adjustable side to side. That adjustment might take care of the whine, but you need to wonder why they were bad the first time...possibly the pinion bearings.
But I would probably try adjusting the diff first.
