Chevrolet Repair: electric fuel pump, tank unit, tank fuel

Question
my father in laws 1988 suburban needs a new fuel pump once a year. It goes out with no warning. we've cleaned the fuel tank, fuel filter checked the relay and fuse prior to dropping the tank. There is a leak at the intake manifold, and we live in alaska. what could be causing the pumps to go out every year, we run premium fuel in it, and have done the repair our selves and had it done by profesionals.

Answer
Hello Aaron,
I have seen situations where the pump quit working, and replacing it would work for a spell, and quit again. It was caused by the wires inside the tank, on the tank unit that the pump mounts to. The connections through the top of the unit were loose, and just changing them made the pump work for a while...even if the old pump was used.
It seems like it was a rivet loose through the plastic, causing poor connection.
