Chevrolet Repair: 94 chev pickup, 1/2 ton., fuel pump, chev

Question
Stopped in Duncan, put $20.00 gas into tank.  Drove to Victoria, about 45-55 minutes drive.
After Class(3.5 hrs. later) tried to fire up truck, would not fire.
Recently installed new battery.

do not know if it has to do with spark or fuel pump.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thank you
Garry

Answer
Hi Garry,
You can check for spark with a spare spark plug, or a grounded piece of wire, etc.
A small amount of gas or starting fluid into the intake, as close to the manifold as possible, can also be helpful in determining if lack of fuel is the culprit.
You should be able to hear the fuel pump running in the tank for about three seconds after the key is turned to run.
I don't know where Duncan is, nor if you have freezing temperatures at that time, but if water is frozen in the system, that could be the problem also.
