Chevrolet Repair: automatic transmission, 1992 chevy lumina, chevy lumina

Question
I have a 1992 Chevy Lumina that suddenly developed this problem today.  The very first incident happened in a parking lot.  I was in "drive" and needed to back up.  When I put it in reverse, it died.  I put it in park, started it up again, put it in reverse, and it died.  I tried other gears after that, but it still died.  Somehow, after some time doing this, it stayed alive.  When I was going home I discovered that giving it gas when braked at a stoplight kept it from dying.  At home I checked my transmission fluid.  It was at the right level, but the fluid on the stick was kind of bubbley.  Is this a problem that will be resolved simply (and cheaply) by changing out my transmission fluid?  Or might this be something more serious and costly?  (And if it is something else, might you know how much it will run me?)

Answer
It wouldnt be a transmission problem, unless your driving down the road, and the vehicle slips out of gear while driving. Trans fluid does have bubbles to it but if the fluid smells burnt ect then you have a transmission problem. Most fluid and transmiision filter changes should be done every 50 thousand miles or so. Im thinking your problem is more in the engine, you could have a bad tps sensor, weak fuel pump, a number of possibilitys. I would have a diagnostic run on the engine for about $60.00 this will tell if you have a sensor problem with the vehicle. Thanks..
