Chrysler Repair: starter replacementL 2.4L Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze

Question
Where is the starter on a 1999 Plymouth Breeze 2.4L engine and how do you place it?

Answer
Hi Ray,
The starter motor is seen clearly from underneath the car, on the side of the engine that faces the front of the car, at the rear of the engine, about mid-line on the engine just above the edge of the oil pan. It is cylindrical in shape, is about a foot long and about 5 inches in diameter. It is removed from underneath the car, but you have to remove some things above it (that are located in the engine compartment) in order to remove the top mounting bolt that holds the starter in place.
Steps for replacement are:
Remove the - post remote battery cable from the shock tower
Remove bolt holding air inlet resonator to intake manifold; loosen screw holding resonator to throttle body, loosen clamp holding air resonator to air inlet tube; remove resonator.
Remove three transmission control module mounting screws. Move TCM to provide access to top mounting bolt of the starter, do not disconnect TCM wiring.
Remove top bolt attaching starter to transmission
Raise vehicle
Remove battery positive cable nut from starter and remove cable
Disconnect push-on solenoid switch connector from starter
Remove bottom bolt from starter motor that attaches to the transmission.
Install is the reverse except begin by inserting starter face into transmission housing, then lower vehicle and Install the upper mounting bolt. Then raise the vehicle and install the bottom mounting bolt and toque to 40 ft-lb. Then continue reverse of install procedure.
Please read the PS below and respond to it.
Thanks,
Roland
