Chrysler Repair: 05 Sebring Coupe: Loss of many electronics, power door locks, amp fuse

Question
Hello,

I have a 2005 Chrylser Sebring Limited Coupe, V6 Engine

Today the driver's side lighted vanity sun visor broke (now it only stays in the down position, does not flip up into storage mode), and with it this is the following that happened:

- Radio stopped working
- Power door locks, and remote lock/unlock/trunk stopped working
- Power door locks will work only with the engine running
- Vanity lights and interior lights inoperable
- Moon roof is not able to be operated at all anymore, even with engine on
- Anti-theft system will not activate

Do I need to replace the lighted vanity sun visor to fix all these problems (if so, is that an easy DIY project)? Or do I need to replace any fuses? Or am I thinking about this problem the wrong way?

Thanks so much for your response!

Answer
Hi Jay,
It is likely that at the visor pivot or in the visor proper a short circuit of the voltage from fuse #5 in the fuse block located behind the left end cap of the dash occurred and as the result that 10 amp fuse has blown. It is an important fuse that operates all the electronics that might be called into play when the vehicle is not use and is called the "ignition off draw" fuse. I would remove the visor (screws holding the pivot to the roof structure) and while you are in that process you will see there is a wire harness that comes along with it as you take it down. There should be a plug on that harness which you can use to separate the visor from the body wiring harness (probably lift a tab to release the plug/socket connection).
There are two wires in the harness: the pink carries the 12v, and the black is the ground wire. Then inspect the pink wires on either side of the connection to see if they are damaged, particularly on the wire from the roof side. If no damage to that pink roof side-wire is noticed then the short is probably in the visor itself or its pink wire. So you then should be able to replace fuse #5 and restore the systems that went out. It is an easy project to replace the visor, and if you check it over it may be possible to repair it and the wiring rather than having to buy a new one.

PS: Thanks for the rating and nomination, Jay. I am pleased you found the fuse that was involved. I had the concept correct, but overlooked that you have the Sebring coupe, rather than the Sebring sedan/convert. So I looked in the wrong manual! But fuse 22 in the box under hood ss the Ignition Off Draw fuse in your vehicle. So all is well!
