Chrysler Repair: Overheating Chrysler, radiator cooling fan, temp guage

Question
I have a 2001 Chrysler 300M, 3.5. I had the radiator replaced last year, and now it is trying to overheat. It has always ran cool,(always 3/8 on the temp guage). Now it is going over that and loosing coolant (no leaks) whenever I drive, even very short distances. There is also a smell of very hot metal. Where do I start.

Answer
The first thing you should check is the radiator cooling fan operation. If the fans do not work you'll overheat in a very short time. An easy way to check them is to run the A/C, the fans should come on when the compressor engages and the refrigerant pressure reach a preset level. Try this check first and let me know what happens.
