Chrysler Repair: Disarming Alarm: 99 Chrysler LHS, 99 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
The dealership says the alarm needs to be reset at $75-$80.  The car will not start, everything lights up, the radio plays, the windows work, etc.  How do I reset my own alarm without so I can start the car without having to pay the dealership?

Answer
Hi Gordon,
The theft alarm disarming normally occurs when you unlock either front door using the door key or by the remote keyless entry. Have you tried to lock/unlock the passenger door using the key?
Does the car have the secure key immobilizer system (where the ignition key has a bulge?). If so then that might only be solved by means of intervention by a dealer. But if not, then I suspect that the wires from the door locks are 'open' so that the body control doesn't sense that you are unlocking the doors.
That is done essentially by attaching a resistor to chassis ground (any shiny structural metal surface under the dash will do) on a specific wire at the body controller which is located under the dash behind fuse box. The controller has 4 plugs and you would find the 16-pin blue plug to then locate a wire on pin 5 or pin 12 (white/dark green or white/light green). If you get a 600-700 ohm resistor and a 2700 and 4000 ohm resistors, then you could put a straight pin through the insulation of either wire, then use jumpers to first jump the 600-700 ohm resistor between the pin and ground, and then remove it and do the same thing with the 2700 ohm resistor and remove it. Then try to start it. If that doesn't work then repeat the jumping but use the 600-700 and then the 4000 ohm resistors, and try to start it.
If the car has the SKIM system then check fuses 14 and 19 in the dash fuse box, and if those are OK then you do have a problem with a module/key that only can be solved with the intervention of a dealer diagnositc box.
