Chrysler Repair: 06 Sebring Sedan: blower only on high speed, blower motor resistor, fan speeds

Question
My fan is only working at setting 4. I understand this is common and indicates that you have to install a new resistor. Is this install straightforward? How do I go about accessing the defective part and replacing it?

Answer
Hi John,
You are correct, it is the blower motor resistor block that is bad. It is located on the underside of the HVAC housing, under the right side of the dash. If you look under the dash you will see a panel that has some bulges that is held in place by a stamped nut and it is also pressed together at the front edge with a strip panel called the under dash bezel. Remove the nut and use a soft stick to pry the two panel apart so this under dash 'silencer' panel will drop down and out. You will then see a multiwire plug on the under side of the HVAC housing which you remove, then remove the two screws on either side of the socket that hold the resistor block in place and it will then drop down for removal and replacement. Reverse the procedure and you will have all 4 fan speeds restored.
