Chrysler Repair: 2003 T&C accessory cutoff, body control module, headlamp switch

Question
Battery discharges when wife leaves door open. Used to be a cutoff timer or voltage monitor, but doesn't seem to work any more.

Answer
Hi Eric,
The interior lighting is supposed to shut down after 8 minutes. That is handled by the body control module which is the intermediary which operates the interior lights based upon inputs from the headlamp switch and the door switches. The failure to shut off the lights is a problem internal to the body control module as far as I can tell. There is no specific description of this sort of a problem in the troubleshoot manual. So it appears there is no obvious solution except to be aware that this programmed function is longer working in the original way and take action accordingly to not leave the door open. The one possibility is that if she is leaving the ignition switch in a position other than 'off', then the battery saver function will not work. So ask her if that is a possibility that would explain the issue.
