Chrysler Repair: code p1391 on jeep cherokee, jeep grand cherokee, crank sensor

Question
Good evening i have a 1996 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 i replaced the cam and crank sensors and the truck still runs rough and cuts off at times

Answer
Hi Greg,
When you replaced the sensors did you push them in until the paper-spacer covered tips touched the surface of the sprockets and hold them in contact while you secured the screws? If not, then you may not have them in the proper location relative to the surfaces. I would get new paper spacers and then reinstall them. Other than that it could be the wiring. I don't have a Jeep '96 manual but on other Chrysler engines of that era, the common ground wire (black/light blue) goes to pin 43 at the pcm, while the cam sensor signal (tan/yellow) goes to pin 33 and the crank sensor (gray/black) goes to pin 32. The orange wire on both sensors carries 8v from pin 44. So check those wires for continuity (shake the harness to detect intermittency) and also verify that the 8v supply is steady.
Keep checking for new fault codes as well for it could be a diffferent issue. Did you disconnect the battery after replacing the sensors so as to erase the old code?
Other than those ideas, about the only other way to find out about intermittent signals is to observe the wires with an oscilloscope while the engine is running.
