Chrysler Repair: 05 300: No wipers; wiper switch?, voltage signals, glow light

Question
QUESTION: What is the procedure in replacing just the wiper switch on the column. Also where is the wiper relay located?

ANSWER: Hi Joe,
There are two relays in the power box under the hood: high/low and on/off which are the 3rd and 4th from the front of the box in the middle row of relays. The wiper switch is part of a switch that does many different switching functions so I wouldn't replace that because it is probably expensive and may not solve the problem. There is a many page troubleshoot instruction in the manual which is probably the best approach to fixing your problem. Tell me the symptoms and I will try to look into it. But I must say this wiring situation is very complex and non-intuitive compared to the early 2000's models.

QUESTION: The only way they will work is to pop the turn signal cap of which is connected to the wipers. When you touch the two wires together they will work on low speed only.

Answer
Hi Joe,
You didn't say which color wires you have connected to get the wipers to work on low only. The way the circuit is wired this would be possible only if you were jumping a 12V wire to the switch output wire, which is the same as setting it to run on slow only. The other wiper run positions are obtained using lower voltage signals that are produced via internal resistors inside the switch. But before replacing the switch I would check to be sure you are getting a 12v supply coming in on a red/gray wire on pin 12 of that switch module. It comes from fuse 30* (10 amp) in the power box under the hood, so check that fuse to make sure it isn't blown or perhaps has a subtle crack in its internal wire. Only after you verify that you have 12v on the pin 12 wire (use a meter or glow light if the fuse looks OK) would it be wise to replace the switch. Let me know what you find and I can give you further instruction. But I believe there is nothing wrong with the wipers or the relays, rather it is the 'call for' part of the circuit.

*Fuse 30 is one of the four adjacent to the + jump post on the box, the furthest from the post.
