Auto Insurance Claims: Paying for Rental Car after Total Loss, mail time, insurance comapny

Question
I was involved in an accident, which i was not at fault. My car was deemed a total loss. I had to use a rental car, in the meanwhile I was looking for a new vehicle. After submitting my rental car bill, the at-fault insurance company tells me that once my car is deemed a total loss, that they are not responsible for any rental car fees whatsoever. I live in Texas and can not believe that I would  be forced to pay for these expenses out of my own pocket. Can you please shed some light on this situation.

Answer
Hi Jide,

The insurance comapny of the at-fault person owes you for a rental car from the date of the accident until the date they issue payment. Most companies will extend an additional an additional 3 to 5 days of rental after issuing the check to allow for mail time.

You may want to cal your state insurance commisioners office for clasrification and possible assistance in this matter.

I hope this helps
