Chrysler Repair: 97 Cirrus no start, hick ups, chrysler cirrus

Question
Hello, I have 1997 Chrysler  Cirrus.for quite some time now the cars check Engine light has been on about a 1 1/2 years ago we had a problem with the distbutor so we replaced it and it worked fine with the check engine light on . till here the last few weeks it started to stall and restart then it acted like it had  the hick ups the check engine light would go off then come back on and the car would jurk  and that would go on about 6 or 7 times then stop .then one day i got in the car started it put it in rev.backed up about 15 feet and it died . and would not restart . so we thought it was the fuel pump so we dropped the tank and tested the pump and it worked fine .then started to test the wire harness to see if the was power to the pig tail that it plugs it to it had all of the pins but one had power the one that runs the fuel pump had no power .

Answer
Hi Rachel,
I would try to get any fault codes that might be stored in the engine computer. Turn the key:"on -off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading changes to show any four-digit numbers. If not, then do it again and watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure of getting an accurate set of flash counts. The last two sets will be 5 in each. '97 was a transition year with both of these ways of getting the fault codes being possible, so look either way. Once we have some fault code numbers we'll know what is needed to fix this.
Tell me the color codes on the wires that you were testing at the fuel pump and which had power.
I doubt the problem has to do with the fuel pump. It is set up to not be powered unless the engine is turning over/running for safety purposes so having no power is not unexpected if you just have the key in the 'run' position and the engine isn't being started or running.

Response:
There are no codes displayed, we hooked a handheld pc to it and it fails comunicating. My brother pulled the computers out thinking replacing them would work. It didn't. Relays are good or replaced, fuses too.

Hi Rachel,
I saw your feedback response. Have your brother check to see that there is 12V on pins 20 and 46 when the ignition switch is in the run position and the start position. Either of those missing will kill the pcm. Encourage him to not try throwing any more parts at the problem...
