Chrysler Repair: ECU AND 02 SENSORS: 98 Sebring coupe, sebring lxi, sebring coupe

Question
I HAVE A 1998 CHRSLER SEBRING LXI 6 CYL. COUPE WITH A SPECIAL PROBLEM. A SQURIL ATE THE O2 SENSOR WIRINIG ON 3 OF THE 4 O2 SENSORS. WE DISCONNECTED THE SENSOR WIRING FROM THE HARNESS AND THE CAR RAN FINE BUT WITH POOR GAS MILAGE. MY SON TRIED TO REWIRE THE OLD SENSORS AND WHEN HE STARTED THE CAR IT RAN TERRIBLE AND WOULD STALL. HE SWITCHED WIRES AROUND TO TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM BUT IT STILL RUNS TERRIBLE. MY QUESTION IS WOULD THE ECM BLOW IF SENSORS WERE WIRED WRONG AND WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

THANK YOU

JOHN CORYELL

Answer
Hi John,
I doubt that the wiring errors would blow the ecm, so first I would check the wiring again.
Let me tell you the wire colors for the sensors as that may be the problem.
The black wires of the sensors all go to nearby local ground points
The black/green wires all go to a sensor signal ground at pin 43 of the ecm
The black/red wires all carry 12V from the ASD (when running or cranking the engine) and those are supplied from pins 15,19,20 of a 28-pin plug that come out of the junction block.
The sensor signal wires are green/black to pin 29, white/black to pin 30, white/red to pin 53, and white/green to pin 51 all at the ecm.
The black ground wires are on pin 1 of the sensor, the black/green are on pin 2, the black/red are on pin 3, and the signal wires are on pin 4 of each sensor's plug
So verify the continuity of those connections/voltages and see if that resolves the problem.

PS Thanks for the rating and nomination.

PPS It might be helpful to get a code readout, for free at an Autozone parts store, which by the specific number would tell you which of the sensors is not functioning properly. The codes will identify up/down and left/right sensor and specifically which wire is bad/suspect.
