Chrysler Repair: 02 PT: check engine light, aftermarket stereo, that would make sense

Question
QUESTION: I just installed an aftermarket stereo on my 2002 PT Cruiser. The stereo seems to work alright but now there is a "No BUS" showing up on the odometer and the airbag & brakes lights are on and the odometer isn't doing anything. Could it be possible I wired something incorrectly? Or does this mean something is loose? I did notice the radio isn't picking up stations very well. I believe that I'm supposed to hook up the violet/yellow wire to something on the stereo but the stereo has nothing that would make sense connecting it to.

ANSWER: I answered this yesterday...any progress?

QUESTION: There is nothing on the new stereo to hook it up to. I disconnected the violet/yellow from connecting to anything (I just taped it off, it was hooked to the red power wire incorrectly) and the NO BUS error stopped but now the check engine light is on. Maybe I just have to have the error lights reset or could I have caused a larger problem?

Answer
Hi Matt,
Any progress on the problem?
May I ask a favor of you? I am seeking the recognition of being the 'volunteer of the month' at Allexperts. To do that I need your nomination which you can give by clicking on the "Thank/rate the expert" button below. That will take you to a page where you will see the question "Would you like to nominate the expert to be volunteer of the month?" If you would click on "yes" I would be most appreciative. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Hi Matt,
Try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if any 4-digit fault codes show up in place of the mileage reading. Let me know and we'll go from there.
