Chrysler Repair: 03 3.3L: Thermostat Location, upper radiator hose, chrysler voyager

Question
Can you tell me on the 2003 Chrysler Voyager minivan, with the 3.3 engine, where the thermostat is actually located?  I'm trying to find out if it's buried and many things have to come apart or off to find it and change it.  Thank you for your help....Rich

Answer
Hi Rich,
The thermostat housing is located at the engine-end of the upper radiator hose, on the side of the engine facing the front of the van, and just below the coil pack. So just follow the hose to find its housing. Remove the hose, after draining off some coolant for reuse, and then remove the two bolts on the housing. You will find the thermostat staked lightly into the housing. After you remove clean away the bulging metal from the original staking process, then install the new thermostat, aligning it with the cutout on the edge (no need to restake) put the new gasket on top of the package and re-install to the engine. Tighten bolts to 20 foot-pounds (about the same as a spark plug), reconnect the hose, refill the system with saved coolant.
