Chrysler Repair: 2005 Town & Country: no running/tail lights, blown fuses, headlamp switch

Question
Headlights work, blinkers and brake lights work with or without headlights on.  No running tail lights when headlights are on.   Bulbs checked, fuses checked.  Don't have much money, please help.  Thanks. Sue

Answer
Hi Sue,
There is an electrically activated switch (called a 'relay') in the power distribution center box in the engine compartment that supplies the current to operate the tail lights and also the front parking lights. That park lamp relay would be my candidate for the cause of this problem as there is no other reason than two blown fuses or something in the headlamp switch 'logic' circuit for how this could happen. So check by turning the headlamp switch to the 'park' position and notice whether you have tail lights at the rear and parking lights at the front. If both are out then that relay is not working (other possibility is the that fuses 2 and 3 are both blown). If none light, then try switching the park lamp relay out with another relay in the box that has the same part number (perhaps the adjacent horn relay is a candidate for this test). They are side by side in the upper rear corner of the box. If that fixes it, then get a new park lamp relay. In not, let me know.
