Chrysler Repair: Chrysler 300 chimes when in motion, latch hook, door latch

QUESTION: When driving my 300(small six cylinder) I hear three chimes occasionaly.  NO warning lights are on.  Sometimes the chimes occur every 5 minutes or so, then other times once an hour. Car is serviced my me for oil changes. Never has been to the shop for anything major.  Over 100,000 on it and running good. (30mpg)

ANSWER: Hi John,
I wonder if this might be the alert for an ajar door? The door latch on either front passenger door may be a bit too loose, which when the body flexes causes the switch that sensed the flexing of the body/door interface to detect a phantom ajar door. So try pushing outward from the inside on all 4 doors to see if you can set off the chime. You probably will have to be in motion at the time of your testing so have a helper do it. It probably happens so fast that it doesn't show up on the alert light on the dash.  When you find the sensitive door just move the latch hook mounted in the door frame a little bit inboard. Let me know the year model if this is not the answer.

QUESTION: I tryed pushing on the doors while sitting in the driveway.  NO sounds.  I will try it today while driving.  Also the three quick chimes are very soft.  No where near as loud as the chimes when the key is in the ignition for example or if the seat belt wasn't connected.  Its a 2005. Plain 300.
The car was a rental before I bought it.  Some kind of component put on by rental company causing chimes.

Hi John,
You might inquire of the rental company as to what the component might be. If that is the source, then I would have no idea about what it is. I will check the manual and let you know if I find there to be veriable intensity of chiming. Also, I only have up to 2004 manuals and don't have one for the current model of the 300 which was new in '05.

PS: The possible causes for chiming, according to the '02 minivan manual are:
seat belt. exterior lamps on, key-in ignition, engine temp critical,turn signal, dome lamp, low oil pressure, high speed warning (going faster than 75, export model but maybe rental unit?), any warning lamp coming on, key in accessory, low/high tire pressure or service tire pressure. Each has specific criteria to lengthy to input here.
