Chrysler Repair: noise on brakes, 2006 chrysler sebring, chrysler sebring

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2006 Chrysler sebring 2.4 engine 4 cylinder. I just heard a noise coming from the brakes a screeching noise coming from my brakes. So we changed brakes and thought that might solve the problem. We still here that noise. What could this be?

ANSWER: When you say 'coming from the brakes' do you mean just coming from the area of one of the wheels, or is both fronts or both back wheels, or do you mean that you only get the noise when you use the brakes? Does the sound vary depending upon whether you are turning or going straight. Does it come and go exactly with using the brake? Does it start from the moment the car begins to move and just get louder or do you have to be moving in some particular way for it to happen and is there anything you can do to make it go away? Can you define 'screeching' with any more specific terms to describe the sound?

QUESTION: This only happens when i put the brake on a stop position. When applying the brake to a point to stop. The noise is squeaky I believe the front .It doesnt make the sound when turning or going straight.

Answer
It may be there is some dirt or grease/oil on the surface of a rotor. So try wiping both sides of the rotor with solvent that will evaporate. If the pads that you replaced with are semi-metallic those may make a noise for a while until they wear in. Also check for the posibility that a rotor(s) is warped by rotating them by hand and compare spacing to a fixed pointer placed near the surface. It they were warped the sliding from side to side of the calipers along their pins can make a noise. You would also feel a slight pulsing of the pedal as you braked if that were the case.
Did you have the brakes done at a shop? If so, and if you paid for a professional job, then they should have road tested to see what the noise situation was like after the pads were installed
