Chrysler Repair: Code 43:97 3.0L V-6, coil pack, primary coil

Question
QUESTION: the code from my 1997 voyageur it is 4-3 which is peak primary circuit current not achieved with maximum dwell time
could you tell me what that means and how to repair.

Thank You
PHILIP T DUTKA

ANSWER: Hi Phillip,
It refers to ignition coil #1 of the  coil pack which provides spark to cylinders # 1 and 4. Either the gray wire from the pcm's pin 11 to the plug at the coil pack (just to the right of the indent dimple of the plug) is "open" or it is shorted to ground, OR the primary coil #1 itself is "open" or shorted to ground (measure diagonally from corresponding pin on coil pack for gray wire to ASD connection, it should be less than 2 ohms, if more coil pack is bad) OR the pcm coil driver section on pin 11 is possibly faulty. Let me know if this is not clear.
The code is basically saying that from the point of view of pin 11 of the pcm the current to create the spark is not being "drawn" by that section of the coil pack. You should notice a 'miss' on cylinders 1 and 4 (i.e. disconnecting the cap on either of those plugs should cause no change in the engine function, while pulling a plug on any of the other 4 cylinders will be 'noticeable'.

QUESTION: I DONT UNDERSTAND ITS A V6 WITH ONLY ONE COIL WITH TWO WIRES TO IT,ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THE SAME COIL?

THANK YOU
PHILIP DUTKA

ANSWER: Hi Philip,
OK, I forgot that there are actually three possible V-6 engines and yours is the 3.0L with a distributor, evidentally. I don't see the code 43 in use for that engine, but the same meaning applied to it would suggest checking the impedence of the coil primary, which should be .95 to 1.2 ohms, and verifying the wire from the pcm to the coil (black/gray) to pin 19 if you have the 60-pin pcm plug, or (gray) to pin 11 if you have 2-40 pin plugs on the pcm.
Are you sure you have a 43 code and not some other combination(s) that to to 7 flashes?

QUESTION: THATS THE CODE I GET FIRST 2-1 THEN 4-3 LAST 5-5
WHAT HAPPENS NOW IS WHILE RUNNING AT STOP THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL FLASH CONSTANTLY UNTIL YOU START MOVING AGAIN

Answer
Well, check your coil as that is the only item that is tied to a 43 code, and of course check its 'driver' wire for continuity. The check engine light may be flashing due to severe rough idling because of the coil fault. The 21 says the oxygen sensor isn't changing its reading which suggests it may be bad, but check its wires which are fragile as well. I am thinking you may have the equivalent of a '96 domestic US model if this is a minivan that was first sold outside the US in '97 (there seems to be a one year lag). Otherwise I would be surprised that you are gretting fault codes with the ignition key. In most of the domestic '97 models that feature is not available.
