Chrysler Repair: Chrysler T & C ambient air temp sensor error code, boiler plate, sensor error

Question
I have a 1997 Chrysler Town & Country that shows OC on the overhead console display for the outside temperature. I have removed the old sensor & read that it is necessary to disconnect the negative cable to the battery while replacing it? Please explain. Thanks

Answer
Hi Alan,
There is no doubt a bit of voltage on one of the two wires, which if directly grounded might overload the overhead console power supply. Thus the recommendation to disconnect the battery. No big deal if you didn't do that so long as nothing untoward happened in handling the exchange of sensors at the plug. It is essentially 'boiler plate' for many such sensor exchanges.
