Chrysler Repair: 95 Chrysler Cirrus: no start, camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor

Question
my cirrus died going down the road yesterday .it does have fuel battery and starter .i was told that there was a fuel  cut off some where that some times cut out when you hit a hole in the road . there is supposed to be a reset switch to push that will fix this .where is this and is this true ?

Answer
Hi Robert,
The only fuel cutoff is the autoshutdown relay which is electrically controlled by the engine computer. It will only shut off the fuel (and the spark) if the engine dies (which means the signals of the two detectors of the engine rotation cease to send their signals; this is a safety feature to prevent engine fires in the case of an accident). But once you activate the starter motor the rotation starts again and the relay reactivates the fuel pump and the spark.
Thus there is no cut-off in that sense of the word that can be 'reset'.
However, more likely is that one of the two rotational sensors (cam shaft/crank shaft) has failed. The way to find out is to use the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that within an elapsed time of 5 seconds or less. Then watch the "check engine light, which remains "on", to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each puase. Then repeat the process to be sure of an accurate count. Then group the pulse counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form 2-digit numbers that are the fault codes which tell you what might be wrong. If the code 11 comes out, that means the crankshaft sensor has failed, if the code 54 comes out that means the camshaft sensor has failed.  You will always get a code 55 last, because that means "end of readout".
Let me know and we can go from there.
