Chrysler Repair: 1998 Chrysler Sebring LXI Coupe 2.5L v-6, chrysler sebring lxi, 1998 chrysler sebring lxi

Question
I have the above listed vehicle, and on acceleration especially when cold w/ high humidity my car has no horsepower at all and it takes about 15-20 seconds for the acceleration to pick up. My check engine light is not on but when it sits and idles for a period it will flash then go off. Ive changed the plugs and wires and checked for any vacuum leaks and found none. We did replace the Transmission control solenoid about 2 years ago and and had to run a jumper wire from the fuse panel to the Transmission Control relay to keep car out of "Limp Mode" Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Andy,
It could be one of several problems, and the quickest way to start would be to do a readout of the memory of the engine controller for the presence of any 4-digit fault codes. This can be done often for free at an Autozone parts store, or for less than $40 at an independent shop. Ask for the fault code numbers, what they, what they propose to repair, and how much. Then write me back and we can check what you learned against the manual.
If may be possible to get a readout with the ignition key:
"On-off-on-off-on" and leave on, doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch to odometer window in the cluster which may then change to give you the fault codes. If not, then a no or low cost readout is the way to go.
