Chrysler Repair: concorde 1998 2.7 timing chains, crankshaft pulley, blue crank

Question
QUESTION: had to replace knock senser know the timing is off the book really doesnt tell me where the cams are supposed the be lined up with .they have 2 cams per side and 2 marks on the chain conecting them i have the sprocket mark on the firt cam marks on each side .thats not right it sound fine turning over but no fire .please help

ANSWER: Hi Mike,
There are three different timing chain hashmark areas, one has two marked links, the other two areas are single marked links. When you have the double links centered on the front cam sproket diamond, the rear sprocket dot should be also centered on a single marked link, AND at the crankshaft sprocket a single marked link should be aligned both at indent in the sprocket AND at a diamond marker on the opposite side of the chain (located at about 4 o'clock). That is TDC. I don't see why changing the knock sensor would change your timing chain at all.
If you don't have fire, though, that would not be timing issue necessarily. How about the cam and crank sensors? You can check that they are pulsing properly with a voltmeter: just turn the ignition on and turn the engine over by hand with a crankshaft pulley socket and breaker bar. Watch to see if when you measure between the gray/black and the black/light blue (crank sensor) and between the tan/yellow and the black/light blue (cam sensor) wires that you see a voltage that oscillates several times per crank revolution between 5V and 0.3V. Also turn the ignition switch on-off-on-off-on and leave on and see if the odometer window reading changes to show any 4-digit fault code numbers that might be relevant.
Are you getting spark?

QUESTION: what i need is to know its has 2 cams each side there are 2 colored links on cam chains where is the mark the timing mark ?what do i line the cam chain sprocket up with i have the crankshaft on and my mark on the cam sprocket are on the marks the cam sprocket to the cam chain is what i need .right is passenger side.you said front ?

ANSWER: Hi Mike,
OK if you are talking about the short chains that couple together the cams on each side, then according to the manual you set the engine so that the crank is at the TDC of the EXAUST stroke of cylinder #1. When you have the position, look at the timing mark of the intake sproket relative to the line which runs between the axes of the two cams (that line is also parallel to the cylinder head cover sealing surface), that mark should be at 90 degrees to that line. Then count the number of pins in the chain between the two sprokets timing marks, it should be exactly 12 pins if the two cams are coupled together properly.
I am sorry for the front vs the back, I should have said left and right, I was thinking about the engine as if it were transverse mounted. By left I mean the driver side, and right the passenger side, so we are in agreement on that point.
Let me know if this still is not helpful. The best thing would be to copy the pages and postal mail them to you which I can do. You can remimburse me at 10 cents per side plug via postage stamps, after you get the pages. I suspect a Haynes manual will show these details too. I can't post drawings on this site, and anyway I don't have a scanner. Use the 'thank and rate' tab to enter a postal address if you want me to do that.

QUESTION: hey roland i still cant seem to get it right .i had to remove the head to change knock senser they how it started.dumbest place to put a knock senser. i marked the cam sproicket and cams before i removed every thing but i was off when i restarted the car .on the drivers side there is a arrow on the intake cam im sure that points to something can you tell me what  ??  thanks

Answer
Hi Mike,
Did you get the pages yet? I thought about exactly what you ask, and it appears to me that it is a matter of using the special colored links (and counting the pins for the short chains), and looking at the drawings,  because the only hash mark that is spoken of is the one on the oil pump cover which is used to align the crank sprocket. I know it is different from all the other engines in not having matching marks for the cams on a fixed surface nearby, but I believe the design is such that if you use the specified links that it will work out. Other than checking with a Haynes manual or a later-year official manual for a possible revision, I can't think of anyother answer to give you.
