Chrysler Repair: 95 LHS, obd scanner, rectangular array

Question
Help locate where you hook up the OBD scanner to read the engine codes.

Answer
Hi Janie,
My '94 manual shows it to be hanging under the dash, to the right of the steering column. It is blue in color and has 6 wires attached to it. Note that this is an OBD I system still in '95 and the connector is called a "data link connector". The pins are arranged in a rectangular array, 2 x 3. You may need to go to a dealer who would have a DRB II reader, though an independent shop could also have a reader with the proper plug. Let me know if you find something other than what I have described, and if you have a question about what the codes mean, let me know.
By the way you should be able to get the codes without a reader:
Turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light which remains 'on' to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure you have an accurate count. The last two sets of flashes will always be 5 in each. When you group the numbers in pairs in the order of appearance to form the 2-digit fault codes you will thus always end with 55 which is the code for "end of readout". Let me know the other codes and we can go from there, and tell me about your problem. You can also get a code listing at www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html
