Chrysler Repair: AC/Heater Problem: blower/distribution, 92 NewYorker, blower motor resistor, chrysler new yorker

Question
1992 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue.  When I select the low, medium or high position on my A/C Heater Control panel the air doesn't blow.  When I select the fan icon the air blow through the vents and some against the windshield.  What are my troubleshooting procedures?

Answer
Hi Mary Jo,
If you mean that the blower motor only runs on high and not the 4 lower speeds, then that means the blower motor resistor block has failed. It is located above the glove box so you need to remove that to access it. There are screws that go around the door box opening, just remove all of those and the glove box should drop out. Then follow the wires from the blower motor that run up and to the right to the firewall above the glove box where you will find a plug into the resistor block. Remove the plug and you will see two screws that hold it in place. Remove the screws and the old block will pull out. Then put in the new block and reverse the steps.
On the air distribution problem, that is controlled by a vacuum operated distribution system that moves internal doors. The vacuum supply is a fine tube that splits off in the engine compartment at the big vacuum hose that supplies the power brake canister. That fine hose goes thru the fire wall to the heater/ac box in the cabin. Check the hose to see that it isn't cracked all the way to the firewall and-or unplugged from the branch point at the power brake canister. If that looks alright, then check under the dash where the hose comes inside and attaches to the distribution switch system.
Let me know what you find and if you need more info.
