Chrysler Repair: 1997 Sebring died and wont start, crank sensor, haynes manual

Question
This is a convertible, 2.5l. After replacing the upstream O2 sensor because of a P0134 code, plugs, plug wires and distributor cap, the car started and ran for 3 miles.  It then started missing at idle at a stop light.  After leaving the intersection, the car stopped running.  I had it towed home.  It has fuel but no spark. I replaced the crank sensor but that didn't fix the problem.  I tested the terminals of the distributor in accordance with a Haynes manual.  The primary resistance is in spec but the secondary resistance is 9,000 ohms.  Spec is supposed to be 12,000 to 18,000.  I am not convinced this resistance would keep the car from starting.  Are there any tests I can do to determine if the problem is the PCM.  By the way, there is no check engine light but a P0123 which doesn't make sense.  Thanks in advance

Answer
Hi Bob,
The O123 should be checked nonetheless; just verify that the resistance between the center and either outside pin of its plug varies smoothly. And look over the wires to make sure none are damaged due to heat.
The lower than spec secondary resistance of the coil would suggest a correspondingly lower spark voltage which might reduce the intensity or even the exixtence of a spark. But before thinking about a new distributor I would check the resistance between the center button and the ignition coil terminal of the distributor cap; that cap resistance should be around 5,000 ohms. Then check continuity between the PCM and the distributor: PCM 11 to 6-way plug 1 (or 6?) bk/gy
                    ground to   "    "   2 (or 5?)  bk
                    PCM 6  to 2-way plug 2 dark green/or
                    PCM 44 to orange/white at 6-way
                    PCM 33 to tan/yellow   at 6-way
                    PCM 43 to black/light blue "
Then if all that checks and even though you don't have a code for the cam sensor it may lead to the conclusion that you need a new distributor. Because of the cost thereof do check this out first. On those continuity checks, verify by the wire colors because these were changine in these years and there are discrepencies in the manual.
