Chrysler Repair: 98 Concorde Battery connection, battery cables, battery connection

Question
My gauges where not working, then my battery died. I jumped it and it would run good. I went and had the battery replaced about 2-3 months ago. When I got the battery replaced the gauges started working again. Now after having the new battery for 3 months the gauges quit working again. This morning I went and bulled the tire and the air box and cleaned the positive terminal on the battery, then put it back on nice and tight. I noticed when doing this that they put a new bolt through the clamp when I got the battery replaced. Anyways back to my question. Now after cleaning it up today my gauges work again, but now the car has to be jumped and even when driving the voltage light comes on. I think that I need to battery terminal wires. What do you think, and how hard would these wires be to replace?

Answer
Hi Jerad,
Battery cables are easy to replace, generally, but I would suggest that you go back to the battery and check both the - post and the + post clamps and the connections of those clamps to the wires. Always disconnect the - post wire first, then the + post; re-attach  the + first and then the -. You would be helped too with a battery post brush and a tube of battery clamp/post grease that prevents oxidation at the enter face. I believe too there are "remote" posts on the strut tower connected to these wires to consider as well. If you still have the problem after that maintenance then replacement is in order but you should find a spot of near total corrosion if that is truly the problem.
