Chrysler Repair: 94 new yorker 3.5 wont start, gas gauge, compressor clutch

Question
Car drove fine when we bought it (approx.6 months ago) then developed a shudder around 40 mph during normal acceleration, at the same time, it became much harder to start in the morning. Today, won't start at all, fuel gauge doesn't register, cannot get codes. Before today, codes were 33,33, 43. I don't want to replace things that don't need it, but need to get the car running again. Thanks,

Answer
Hi Todd,
I wonder if you have a loose battery cable or perhaps the ground -post cable is loose where it is attached to the frame near the battery? It seems to be a more general failure of the power distribution to the computer if you get not codes, and no gas gauge, and no starter (or did you mean the starter will crank but it won't catch and run?). The 33 code says something is wrong with the AC compressor clutch circuit, but that wouldn't affect starting/running. The 43 code says you have a problem with the primary coil(s) of the ignition spark coil module (which has 3 separate coils in one unit) in that the current is not flowing thru the coils at the expected rate. So that would be the first item to consider replacing once you get the general power situation in hand. But verify that it is plugged in securely, and if you have an ohmmeter you could verify that the wire from each of the coils is connected to the 60-pin engine controller plug (red/yelllow to pin 18, white to pin 17, and black to pin 19, and dark green/orange to pin 57). Let me know exactly what works electrically and what doesn't work so that maybe we can identify a fuse that has cracked or blown if you can't get general power to the engine/starter/check engine light, etc. How about the battery? Maybe it needs to be charged.
