Chrysler Repair: Engine stops, restarts in a minute, stops again in a few minutes, etc., camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor

Question
I have a 1997 dodge caravan,3.3 engine.I were driving down the highway and it just cut off.I went under the hood and pushed the valve the gas came out of to see if it were getting gas ,it started right up.I went about 3 miles it cut off again i repeated the same step again it started again and made about another 3 miles. It cut off again and didn't start back.I went and put a new ignition coil on it because it wasn't getting no fire, that didn't work.Could it be the oxygen sensor gone bad ?if it's the oxygen sensor can you tell me where it's located at on the vehicle?

Answer
Hi Minnie,
This behavior sounds to me like the failure or the crankshaft sensor or the camshaft sensor. The quickest way to find out is to use your ignition key: turn it "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing this in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch either the odometer window for a code number to appear, or watch the check engine light that remains "on" to begin to flash, pause, flash, pause, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause, then repeat to verify the numbers. Then group the numbers in pairs to form two digit numbers. The code for the crank sensor is 11, for the cam sensor is 54. Code 55 means 'end of readout'. If instead you got a code in the odometer window let me know what it was. If neither the window not the check engine light produces a code, you can oftern get a free code readout at an Autozone parts store.
Let me know if you need info on how to deal with the sensor replacement or a different code? Use the "rate the expert" tab to reach me.
