Chrysler Repair: Instrument Cluster, lebaron gtc, different shape

Question
I have a 1988 LeBaron GTC Convertable that currently has the anolog type instrument cluster.
The speedometer is functioning fine, but the odometer is not. along with this the trip meter
also dose not function and the reset button
seems to be broken. From fooling around with the
unit it appears that the problem is within the actual cluster. I have been looking for an anolog
cluster, but it seems that the digital units are move available. Can the digital be switched for anolog?

Answer
Hi Mike,
The failure is probably due to the gears that drive the odometer having worn out. There is company that sell the gears for $25.  www.odometergears.com
You can substitute the digital for the analog in the year from 87-89, but not later units than that, but you will need to rewire the plugins which are of different shape and wiring assignment and pick up some wires from elsewhere that are not provided for the mechanical set up. If you go that route besure the replacement comes with the plugs and pigtails.
I would be inclined to get new gears and install them in your present cluster rather than run the hassle of all that wiring.
