Chrysler Repair: Anti-theft system, chrysler new yorker, chrysler dealership

Question
Hi Roland,

Here's a brief summary, about 1 1/2 years ago, one night i drove home, car was great, next morning i woke up a few hours later, and the car wouldn't start. At that time I changed the battery, alternator, etc. Still didnt start, my car has sat since then. I took it to a mechanic, everything seems to be working fine, but it wont keep running. He checked out the wiring, fuel pump, starter, he's gone over the entire car and he's baffled. It will turnover and start then die out a few seconds.. I just noticed for the first time that the anti theft system light was on, and my mechanic says thats definitely the problem because it was working fine before.. I have a chrysler new yorker, v6, 3.0 Litre, and my question is how do I disable the anti-theft system? I've already tried taking out the battery, I've also tried putting my key in the driver door and turning it over 3 times (advice from a chrysler dealership).. I appreciate any kind of info or help you could give me on this..

Thanks

Answer
Hi Shaun,
I'm going to assume that your New Yorker is pre-93 because those were the 3.0L engine-usage time frames. I would first try to disarm it: lock/unlock the passenger door using the key because both the driver and passenger door locks have sensors that communicate with the theft module and evidentally the driver's side is disconnected (probably a wire break at the hinge). If that disarm's the system were in luck. Then you have the choice of not using the power door lock to ever lock the car so as to avoid the problem again (sooner or later the passenger door will fail to disarm also) OR you can remove the theft module and kill the problem that way.
BUT you must never unplug the module without first starting the engine and having it running when you do it, otherwise the engine controller goes into a deep engine kill state that can only be cleared at a dealer using a Diagnostic readout box (DRB II). So see if you can disarm it with the key in the passenger side. Just once: lock/unlock is supposed to do it. Other than taking off the door panel and fixing the wire or otherwise faking out the theft module the only other possibility of disarming is to haul it to a dealer and have the module disarmed using the DRB II. But let me know what happens.
The module is mounted above the glovebox. You have to remove the underdash pad, and the glove box (screws around the circumference of the opening) then above the opening you will see a bracked which you may have to remove the screws on either end of to drop it low enough to get to the modules. The rightmost one with a 21 pin natural color connector is the theft module and the one directly next to is for the remote keyless entry receiver(you may have to remove it first to get to the theft module mounting screws) and there may be a third module to the right which is the lamp outage module. I'm going by the 92 shop manual so let me know if this doesn't appear to apply to your car from a different year.
