Chrysler Repair: 99 Sebring with 98 engine, ais motor, egr valve

Question
Now as you answer my question maybe you can help me on this matter.  I have a 99 Sebring with a 98 engine.. When I order things online I always put in 99 Sebring but it come up with the wrong type of ltr engine.  It always tells me to put LXi but my car is a LX.  so when ordering parts should I put the yr of the engine 98 or do I put 99 Lxi?  I am soooo confused.  I don't want to order the wrong part. But when I put in 98 it asks me if it is a 2.5 ltr or 2.0... What do I doooo?

Answer
If you can find out from whoever did the engine swap which parts are from the 98 engine and which are still the original parts that came with your 99 car, that would be the determining factor in what to order. The 98 engine itself may have just been the major mechanical part and they used all the electrical parts and throttle body and powertrain controller from the 99 car without any change over. Or they could have also changed over all the parts and electricals so that they too are now '98 model. There is probably a good chance that the 98 and 99 parts are identical anyway so it is a distinction without a difference. If you need to order something where the 98 and the 99 are different I would ask if you can order both and return the one that is not correct after you get them to compare.
Again, I would not replace the AIS motor until you try to clean it and to check/lub the EGR valve. To solve a problem by 'throwing parts at it' is often a fruitless process.
