Chrysler Repair: 96 LHS headlight bulb replacement, ring collar, rubbing alcohol

Question
Hi Roland  My 96 LHS low beam bulb needs to be replaced I cant figure out how to get the headlight assembly out to change the bulb. Thank you Russell

Answer
Hi Russell,
On the LHS you first have to remove the full car-width panel called a "sight shield" just above the headlamp and grill housings. It has 6 screws, 2 at the far rear corners, 2 in the middle behind each headlight housing, and 2 close together at the very front. Then notice on the headlamp module proper that there is a torx head screw (#15 approx.) at each end-corner on the top surface of the module; remove these two screws to release the module. Pull the module forward out of its mount and disconnect the wire connector to the bulb holder.  Then note the bulb holder is held in place by a plastic ring/collar with tabs. You unscrew the collar 1/4 turn to remove it, then with a narrow straight edge screwdriver you get between the lip on the holder and the socket on the housing to separate the holder from the housing, and the holder and bulb come out as a unit.
Then you remove the old bulb, noting how it fits into the holder, and using tissue paper to hold the new bulb (so as not to get any skin oil on the surface) put it in the holder and reverse the process. If you think the bulb surface might be fingerprinted, clean it with rubbing alcohol. Then reverse the steps to reassemble.
Let me know if this is not clear to you.
Roland
