Chrysler Repair: heater, automatic temperature control, temperature guage

Question
The heater of my 1993 fifth avenue just stopped running on my way home.  What could've caused it to do that?

Answer
Hi Liz,
Without more information I can't answer your question. In what manner did it fail? Did the only thing that happened was that the air turned cold with no other obvious malfunction? Was there any change in the temperature guage of the cooling system (such as running hotter than usual), if there is such a gauge on your instrument panel? Any change in the operation of the engine that you noticed? Did the cabin blower continue to blow if you were using it? Did the air distribution pattern change by itself? Did you notice any coolant under the car where you parked (or will you look for this at the present time and let me know that)? Is there still coolant in the overflow bottle under the hood, or does it seem that you may have lost some coolant from the system? Is the temperture control system conventional with just a temperature slider or is it an automatic temperature control unit where you set the temperature you want on an electronic digital readout dial? What engine is in the car (listed on the underhood sticker or engraved on the engine)? And finally can you tell me if the 5th Avenue is a front wheel or a rear wheel drive vehicle ('93 was the year when a newly designed New Yorker was first offered, but I am unfamiliar with the 5th Avenue model for that year)?
I think I can help you but I really need to know more.
Roland
