Chrysler Repair: 1987 New Yorker Surging & Burning excessive fuel, coolant temp, leaky injector

Question
Hi,
I'm driving a 1987 New Yorker with the 2.2L Turbo engine.  Lately the car has been acting up.  While the motor is cold, the car accelerates and runs decently. Once the motor gets to normal operating temperature, the car hesitates to accelerate, then surges, then hesitates again.  The average speed for going up a hill is 18mph... a little too slow if you ask me.  Every so often the car will stall at a red light as well.

The codes the computer spits out are 15 and 52.  So... I understand the code 52 means that my oxygen sensor is stuck in the rich position.  Would that cause it to go through so much gas?  What do I need to check or change to solve this?

Answer
Hi Tyson,
I would not blame it on the oxygen sensor, rather I'd verify that there is one or more injectors that are leaking fuel which would cause the 52 code. So I would warm the engine up to operating temperature, then turn it off for 5 minutes, and then remove the spark plugs one at a time and inspect for wet tips/fouled with fuel condition. Any such plug would suggest a stuck open/leaky injector for that cylinder.
Another possibility is that the coolant temp sensor is faulty (though that too should set a 17 or 22 code). So you might verify that the sensor is reading less than 1,000 ohms when the engine is at operating temp. It is located on the thermostat housing.
Let me know what you find out.
