Chrysler Repair: 95 Avenger Door problem, metal fatigue, cosmetic damage

Question
my Avenger's door popped out on me the other day and now my door will only open about 1 foot. the bottom of the door had popped out a few weeks ago but the door still opened. now the front of the door is getting stuck on the back of the fender. I dont know if it's the pins or the actual hinge plates themselves. The front of the door sticks out about 3/4 of an inch past the fender.
Could you please shed some kind of light on this for me...i dont want my door falling off on the hiway!

Answer
Hi Evan,
If it isn't obvious as to what is wrong with the interface between the door and piller to which it is attached then you might be wise to stop at a body shop and have them examine whether it is simply the bolts that secure the hinge to the piller and the door or the hinge or a metal fatigue issue that requires welding. This is a standard problem that body shops can deal with. The sooner you get it in, the less will be the possibility of cosmetic damage that requires more money to repair. So I would look at the hinge, attachment hardware, and compare it with the right hand door and if it isn't something that merely requires repositioning the hinge and tightening the bolts, then I'd go to a body shop for repair.
