Chrysler Repair: Engine timing belt, chrysler engines, engine didn

Question
1990 Chrysler 5th Ave.  70,000 miles on the car
The Timing belt jumped a notch or 2 and I drove
the car for another 15 minutes to get home.
Can I just have the dealer change the Belt or do you think I will have a bent valve or worse?

Answer
Hi Bob,
If the engine didn't seem to suffer from the experience, e.g. overheat extremely, I don't believe that there is any damage. The Chrysler engines of that vintage, whether 4 or 6 cyl. are non-interference design which means the valves cannot be damaged by the pistons if the belt breaks while the engine is running. So I would assume the belt is the only thing that needs replacement.
