Classic/Antique Car Repair: Headlights, sealed beam headlights, cadillac lasalle club

Question
My car, a 1935 Cadilac-LaSalle has modern sealed beam headlight
assembilies, converted using the original shells. I have been looking for take-off original bulb type assembilies without success
so far. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Steven,

Congratulations on a wonderful car!  LaSalle's are underappreciated in my opinion.

To return to non-sealed beam headlights, you're going to need to find original internals and lens as I'm not aware of these units being reproduced today. However, I would expect that replacements would not be too hard to find as long as you're willing to consider used units. The reason is that I'd expect both Cadillac and LaSalle to interchange and likely other GM makes both in 1935 and other years. The best way to determine interchange (and perhaps finding a set) would be to contact you're local chapter of the Cadillac-LaSalle club. They usually have tech. experts by year who could tell you both interchange and availability information.

Failing the above, go to the Cadillac and LaSalle sections of Hemmings Motor News (hemmingsmotornews.com). There are parts sources here that should fix you up. The only caveat? Bring money as it's likely that these parts, particularly the lens, will be expensive.

Good luck!

Bob
